22. How to Select The Motor for an Air Compressor?

Most air compressors are equipped with electric motors that have an overload capacity of at least 1.15 times or more. However, many users, for the sake of safe operation, strictly prohibit the use of motors with overload capacity. Under this premise, there is a possibility that, after some time of operation, an air compressor may experience overcurrent issues when running near its rated pressure, and in more severe cases, this can lead to motor burnout. Therefore, customers should pay attention to the selection of the electric motor capacity for the air compressor and consider the range of operating pressures planned after commissioning to prevent overcurrent issues when the motor is not designed for overload operation but operates at higher pressures.
